Alliance Dance Company was created by Artistic Director Jennifer Gage in 2002. It began as a “Just for fun/One weekend only!” performing opportunity. “Sometimes you have to create what you want. So I thought, why not?” said Jennifer.
A few successful shows later and in 2005, Alliance became a 501(c)3 not-for-profit company. Our focus was a new show, Fired Up!, which premiered GI Rocks!, a one-act ballet with a string of short stories all set to rock music. Alliance has enjoyed mixing styles together by integrating traditional steps in non-traditional ways and to non-traditional music. An Urban Contemporary Jazz company, styles include a mix of ballet, jazz, modern, and hip-hop and are paired with Metallica, Patsy Cline, 30 Seconds to Mars, Cats meowing, House music, and many more genres and artists.
After presenting works in a number of festivals and our own shows A Journey, Cats After 9 Lives, In-Gaged=>Re-Birth and Gut Instinct, the opportunity was presented to open our own school, NorthSide Dance Theater, in 2010. Co-owned by Artistic Director Jennifer Gage and Executive Director Steve House, NSDT offered a full range of classes for beginners through advanced levels, and little ones through adults. The growth continued with their next show Along The Way at Ruth Page Theater which has happily become our theater home.
To celebrate their 10-year anniversary in 2012, the season was expanded to include 10 Years of WAR, which included many companies we have presented in the past and Fighting for a Dream… which presented the most pieces by company members so far. For 2012-2013, we expanded again to a whopping 3 completely unique shows in one season starting with Winter Dance Bash in December, Spring Forward in April, and Alliance’s first open applicant choreographers’ showcase, Kaleidoscope! While Alliance has always offered opportunity to choreograph to its dancers and affiliates, Kaleidoscope has been an exciting addition to what we can offer the community for enjoying a wide range of dance.
With Alliance Dance Company, Jennifer has created over 100 choreographed pieces including 16 productions and 13 full-length story works. The company has worked with 20 new and established choreographers and has been the springboard for several choreographers to start their own company. Alliance has presented an astounding 65 choreographers either setting work on Alliance or presenting their own dancers in over 85 pieces!
